Afghanistan will play their first ever international match today in Pakistan as they take the field against Bangladesh during the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 in Lahore.

In the past, many Afghan players grew up learning cricket in Pakistan while some also featured in the domestic cricket, which includes star all-rounder Mohammad Nabi.

This will also be the first match for Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2023 with their next match in Group B against Sri Lanka on September 5.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh will be looking to bounce back from their defeat in the first match against Sri Lanka since it is a must-win affair for them in order to qualify for the Super 4.

Pakistan, who are in Group A, are the only team which has qualified for the Super 4 stage so far. The Green Shirts beat Nepal in their first match, meanwhile their second fixture against India was washed out.

The Asia Cup 2023 is being held in Pakistan, who are the hosts, and Sri Lanka between August 30 and September 17.

All the matches of the Asia Cup will not be played in Pakistan because the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to send their team to Pakistan due to security concerns.

Pakistan are in Group A alongside Nepal and India. Meanwhile, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka are in Group B.

Four matches will be played in Pakistan, while nine, including the final, will be played in Sri Lanka.
